Mobster fun!
(Last update
08/02/2004)
Have got quite a few pix now of the Beijing Mobster adventures, so it makes
sense to have them on one page (more or less). Many people seem to think that
the idea of going out and killing oneself on a bicycle for fun is the result
of brain damage or some for of mental illness. Not at all! You sweat your arse
off, you feel pain in most parts of the body, starting with the rear end, you
get to hate stones and potholes, the sun burns you to bits, your bike falls
to bits, and every now and then you have to pick yourself off whatever nasty
bits you have fallen onto/into and pedal on. Guaranteed that you will be back
for more!
For the scanned photies, I may have got places/dates wrong, seeing as I have
a very lice but very old camera that does no fancy date/time stamping, so please
correct me if I make mistakes!
- First participation to the Mob was in the Twin Peaks episode. Nothing
like starting off with a hard one! Pause
for breath here. (Jpg 200K)
- Some time and lots of sweat later, did not make it to top of the hill
but at least
got a nice view (Jpg 52K). On the way down met lots of these,
they turn out to be rain control contraptions (Jpg 142K). Very useful
when sudden storms burst out and
this happens (Mpeg 5.5MB). The scenery is
quite incredible at times.
- I can't remember where we were, was
this Baihe (jpeg 183K)??
- Nice company for a
breather (Jpeg 142K) in a nice spot. Mobsters
milling around (Jpeg 243K). Some map
readin' (Jpeg 227K)can come in useful, although
flats don't help either (Jpeg 168K).
- Next we have the Walnut valley ride where I tried out some cross-country
cycling. The thorns won. Was
this there (jpeg 183K)?
- The Bashang/Mongoliahaha weekend was incredible. Still have to do the
video editing. For the whole (as of yet) Bashang
Shebang, click here! Les Hauts de Bashang, c'est ici!
- A couple of weeks later I am seen huffing
and puffing North of Beijing (Jpeg 77K), and see some pretty
strange rock formations (Mpeg 230K).
- And after the huffing and puffing comes the guggling
and snoring. Me aka the Exage-eratedly soused cyclist. Chef
un petit verre on a soif etc.. :-) (Thanks - maybe - to Xingou for this
photo!)
- Saturday the 13th, unlucky for some, but I got through OK. Difficult ride
south of Miyun, but
so beautiful! (Jpeg 83K) Just check out these pictures: Not
sure about the telegraph pole (Jpeg 150K) and Misty
view from the top (Jpeg 130K). Down by a
pretty lake (Jpeg 286K) and doing
a duck count (Jpeg 234K).
- Little bonus, two charming ladies on their bikes: Mia
(Mpeg 863K) and Kitty!
(Mpeg 1MB)
- BIG bonus, one
large film of the 16-08-03 trip to Baihe (Windows Media 20MB!)
- BIG bonus2, a
big film of another trip to Miyun that was quite difficult (Windows
Media 11MB!)
- HUGE bonus3, 30-08-03
trip south of Pinggu, the Gold in them thar Hills. Very good. no gold
though. Swimming! (Windows Media 21MB!)
- *Newish*!Check out the Shidu page.
One long weekend of hard cycling, hard drinking, hard rocks, hard
men, very nice!
Video
of Weigou "King and Queen of the Dirt" (36MB Windows Media).
Or in Kudo's case - "The Day My Bike Exploded". 52K or hard cycling,
and hard repairing of flat tyres by our friends from Windspeed.
Check out the Hainan triathlon page! Now has the films of the Hainan
Sanya Triathlon Madness..
- And I still have not managed to go and do the video of the trip to Bashang
:-(
